Why InterSystems

I spent many years working in the NHS as an acute midwife, dealing first-hand with the realities of complex care and, at times, fragmented systems and data.

I joined InterSystems because I wanted to be part of fixing that.

What stood out to me was the opportunity to work with a technology provider that’s genuinely embedded in some of the most important NHS programmes. It’s not about theory or experimentation—it’s about delivering systems that are already proven at scale.

In my role, I now support organisations through digital transformation in what is often a very challenging landscape. What makes it different is the ability to combine clinical experience with system implementation—helping teams not just deploy technology, but actually get the best out of it.

For me, it’s not just configuring software. It’s about enabling better workflows, better data, and ultimately better care for patients.

One of the moments that really reinforced that for me was watching an anaesthetist start a theatre list using a solution I’d helped implement to digitise their whole workflow—gaining confidence with each case and finishing the session with a smile. That’s when you see the real impact of what we do.

What is the role is really like

The reality of being an Implementation Application Specialist is that no two weeks look the same.

You might be running solution workshops, configuring the application, working through product decisions, supporting training approaches, or coordinating validation across multiple teams and workstreams. A lot of the role sits right alongside NHS EPR project teams, especially when it comes to shaping solutions with clinical stakeholders.

A big part of the job is influencing—working with clinicians and project teams to make sure what’s delivered actually works in real-world workflows. But you also need to be comfortable getting into the detail, working across product, integration, and technical teams to make it happen.

One of the hardest parts, and something people don’t always expect, is navigating change. You’re often supporting organisations through major transformation, and not all of that is within your control—but it directly impacts delivery.

That said, when it works, it really works. I’ve been part of an ICU implementation with device integration where an entire department—nurses, doctors, outreach teams—transitioned into a digital workflow during one of the busiest times of year and did it successfully. That kind of outcome is what makes the role worth it.

The people who thrive in this role are problem-solvers. They’re self-motivated, resilient, and genuinely care about customer success. They understand that what we build is used every day in clinical settings, and that matters.

It’s not a role where everything is handed to you—you need to be comfortable working things out, asking the right questions, and taking ownership. But if you want to make a real impact in how digital healthcare is delivered, it’s an incredibly rewarding place to be.

From the very start, InterSystems focused on making sure I was in the right role for my experience, interests, and career goals. The recruitment and onboarding process felt welcoming and well thought through, giving me confidence that I’d made the right choice. Everyone I met took the time to answer my questions, guide me in the right direction, and support my training. I quickly felt part of a team that is doing meaningful, high-impact work.

It didn’t take long before I was confidently speaking with customers and contributing to real implementation projects. I always felt supported, knowing there was a knowledgeable and approachable team around me whenever I needed help.

I chose InterSystems because I wanted to work in a fast-paced environment on projects that truly matter, alongside talented colleagues who are experts in what they do. The company’s strong focus on customer relationships and satisfaction really stood out to me.

Today, most of my time is spent working directly with customers—building relationships, delivering projects, and helping them succeed. That’s what makes this role so rewarding.
